Replacing a Damaged Ethiopian Origin ID card

 

If your Ethiopian origin ID card is damaged or in poor condition, you must replace it as soon as possible.

 

If you wish to replace your damaged Ethiopian Origin ID card, you must follow the steps outlined.

 

Until further notice, all applications must be made by post.

1. Download and complete the application form

You must complete two copies of the application form.

Completing the Application Form

The form must be completed in BLOCK CAPITAL letters in either blue or black ink.

You must:

  • Complete the form to the best of your ability, answering all the required questions clearly. Your application may not be processed if you fail to provide all necessary information
  • Sign and date the form, where asked

2. Gather the required documents

You are required to submit the following documents in support of your application.

  • Personal Details and Service Request Note

    Please include the following details as a covering note for your application:

    • Name
    • Service Requested (e.g ID Card Replacement)
    • Postal Address
    • Telephone Number
  • Two copies of the completed Ethiopian Origin ID card replacement form.

  • Two copies of your damaged Ethiopian Origin ID Card.
  • Two copies of your passport.

    Two copies of your passport from the country of naturalization.

    Your passport must be valid at least for 6 months.

    Please note that we cannot process your application unless you submit a valid passport.

  • Two passport-size recent colour photographs.

    Two passport-size recent colour photographs (with white background).

    The photograph should be full face without sunglasses, hat or other head covering unless for ethnic or religious reasons.

    Please write your name on the back of the photograph in BLOCK CAPITAL letters.

    Please note that we may not accept photographs that do not meet these specifications.

  • A signed Affidavit of Marital Status & two copies of a valid Ethiopian Origin ID Card of the principal applicant.

    If your Ethiopian Origin ID Card was issued through marriage, you are required to submit a signed Affidavit of Marital Status , stating your marriage is still valid.

    You must also submit two copies of a valid Ethiopian Origin ID Card of the principal applicant.

  • Any other documents, if applicable, in support of your application.

3. Fees and Payment

Upon receipt of your application, a consular officer will contact you to take payment over the phone.

We kindly request that you do not contact the Consular Department to make payment.

The Consular Section only accepts credit and debit card payments for all Consular Services. Payments by American Express, cash, postal orders or banker’s draft are not accepted. 

Payment by cheque or any means other than those stated above, cannot be accepted. We do not accept cash.
The processing fee is non-refundable.

4. Submitting your application to the Embassy

All applications must be made by post.

Please submit your application to the following address:

Please ensure that you enclose a pre-paid self addressed return by Special Delivery envelope to allow us to return your new ID card to you following issue.

If you wish to add children (under 18) to your ID card, you will be required to present two copies of a legal document showing your relationship (i.e. a legalised Birth certificate).

Please make sure that you bring all the required documents.

Please allow 10 working days for your application to reach us before attempting to contact us. If after 10 working days you have still not been contacted, please call us on 0207 838 3898

Please note that…

  • The ID Card processing fee is non-refundable
  • Paperwork submitted in a manner different from the above will not be accepted
  • Due to COVID-19, your application could take longer than usual to reach the Embassy
  • ID card processing starts only after we have received all necessary documents (original with two copies) and payments

Processing Times

5. Processing times and return of I.D.

As Ethiopian I.D. cards are issued in Ethiopia, please be aware that it may take up to three months to process your application. Due to COVID-19, some applications may take longer to process than normal.

The Consular Section will return your new ID card to you by post, using the pre-paid self-addressed return envelope you enclosed with your original application, when it has been issued.
