Ethiopia at the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair
The annual 1-54 Contemporary Art Fair was held at Somerset House in London. This year, Ethiopian representation included Aida Muluneh and Addis Fine Art.
On 2nd October, Ambassador Fesseha was among guests at the launch of ‘Water Life’, an exhibition by celebrated Ethiopian photographer and artist, Aida Muluneh.
Commissioned by WaterAid and supported by H&M Foundation, the exhibition, which was on show at Somerset House until 20th October, brought to light issues of water scarcity and its impact on women.
Addis Fine Art was represented by Rakeb Sile and Messai, who were exhibiting works by Ethiopian artists: Tadesse Mesfin, Ermias Kifleyesus and Merikokeb Berhanu.
Visiting their space, we discussed Addis Ababa’s emerging art scene and future collaborations in London to promote Ethiopian art.
Addis Fine Art has quickly become one of the leading international galleries from Africa, facilitating critical engagement with the local and mainstream art markets, championing an underrepresented yet rich space in modern and contemporary art.
Elsewhere at the fair, works by Ethiopian artist, Elias Sime, who is best known for transforming salvaged electronic materials into monumental compositions, were also on display.
