Ethiopia’s national football team, The Walias, qualified for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), following an eight-year absence. A total of 24 teams will take part in the 33rd edition of AFCON, which will be hosted by Cameroon in January 2022. This will be Ethiopia’s 11th appearance at Africa’s most prestigious football tournament.

In our March 26, 2021 discussions with President Isaias Afwerki during my visit to Asmara, the government of Eritrea has agreed to withdraw its forces out of the Ethiopian border. The Ethiopian National Defense Force will take over guarding the border areas effective immediately.
