Rita Pankhurst, life-long friend of Ethiopia, laid to rest

The academic and activist Rita Pankhurst passed away on 30th May at her home in Addis Ababa, aged 92. Her funeral was held on 4th June at the Trinity Cathedral, where her late husband, Richard Pankhurst OBE, and mother-in-law Sylvia Pankhurst, are also buried.

International registration for Great Ethiopian Run, the biggest road race in Africa, opens

International Registration for the 2019 TOTAL Great Ethiopian Run opened on 6th June. 45,000 participants are expected to take part in this year’s race on Sunday 17th November, often referred to as Ethiopia’s biggest street party.

Ethio-British poet and playwright, Lemn Sissay, wins PEN Pinter prize

Poet, performer playwright, artist and broadcaster Lemn Sissay MBE has been awarded the PEN Pinter Prize 2019. Lemn will receive the award at a public ceremony at the British Library on 10th October, where he will deliver an address. His memoir, My Name is Why, will be published in August.
